A Better YCBT Life Alternative

If your ring came with YCBT Life, keep the ring and swap the app. We have read this protocol at the packet level and checked ourselves against the stock app’s own decoder.

What is the YCBT Life app?

YCBT Life is one of the default companion apps bundled with a large number of affordable smart rings sold on AliExpress, Temu and Amazon. The name comes from the YCBT protocol the ring itself speaks - the same protocol behind SmartHealth - which is why a different YCBT app like Ringlo can read the very same ring without you changing anything.

We have read this protocol, not guessed at it

This is worth being concrete about, because “compatible” is easy to claim. The YCBT software development kit is decompiled on our own machines under its original class names. We have the packet-level code that the ring apps are built on, and we have recorded real Bluetooth sessions between those apps and rings we own.

We used it to check ourselves rather than to copy: we rebuilt the stock app’s own decoder line for line and ran it against ours over identical recorded traffic. Across 127 frames from three separate captures, including two of the stock app’s own sessions, the two decoders disagreed on zero. When Ringlo shows you a number from a YCBT ring, it is the same number the stock app would show. Where we differ from it is in what we do with that number afterwards.

One thing to know before you keep both apps: we recorded a routine YCBT‑family sync in August 2026 and caught it sending the ring four commands that erase its stored history. One of those commands is byte‑for‑byte the one that emptied a Ringlo user’s ring, and cost him a night of sleep data that could not be recovered - deletion on these rings is final. Ringlo sends none of the four, and a test fails our build if anyone re‑enables one. If you want to keep your ring’s own history intact, stop letting the other app sync rather than simply not running them at once.

Why people replace the YCBT Life app

What Ringlo does with the same data

The same bytes, read the same way, presented honestly. Sleep durations corrected against the raw records rather than trusted blindly - we found and fixed a bug in our own app that turned some nights into 712 minutes, and another that shifted every sleep timestamp by an hour. The blood-pressure figure is labelled an estimate, because that is what the vendor’s own code says it is, and it is never written into Apple Health or Health Connect. Fifteen hand-written translations. No ads.

Will Ringlo work with my ring?

If it pairs with YCBT Life, it speaks YCBT, and that is what Ringlo is built around - heart rate, blood oxygen, sleep, steps and the blood-pressure estimate. COLMI R02, R03, R06 and R10 rings on the separate QRing firmware also work, with everything except blood pressure, which that protocol has no command for. MoYoung / Da Rings rings (sold as H1, OW Ring, VR11 and similar, on the Da Rings app) work too: heart rate, HRV, blood oxygen, blood pressure and steps. Not sure which you have? Install Ringlo and tap scan; it answers in about ten seconds, and costs nothing if the answer is no.

How do I switch from YCBT Life to Ringlo?

It takes under a minute:

You can leave YCBT Life installed, but we would not let it sync again - see the warning above about what its sync does to the ring’s stored history. Either way, do not run both at once - a Bluetooth ring connects to one app at a time.

Our stock-app vs Ringlo comparison lays out the trade-offs feature by feature. If you haven't bought a ring yet, the compatible smart rings list shows which models work, and the Ringlo homepage covers everything the app does.
